Former Titans CB Raises Serious Doubts Over Mike Vrabel’s Coaching Techniques

Adoree’ Jackson was selected in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Titans, where he played for four years until signing with the Giants in 2021. He claims that he and the Titans coach Mike Vrabel never got along. The Titans, who were led by Mike Mularkey at the time, selected Jackson in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

The former USC player performed admirably both as a rookie and in his second season, Vrabel’s first. But Jackson struggled with injuries the next two seasons, and a knee ailment in 2020 only allowed him to play in three games.

Despite the Titans exercising the guaranteed fifth-year option in Jackson’s rookie contract the spring previous, Jackson was cut following the 2020 campaign.

Adoree’ Jackson slams Titans coach Mike Vrabel

Jackson stated on Steve Smith’s Cut To It podcast that Vrabel’s hiring came after his rookie season and that he found it difficult to acclimate to the new coaching staff.

“I really got tested with adversity after my rookie season because everybody on the staff got fired,” Jackson said, via the Tennessean.

“. . . Vrabel got there and, at the end of the day, I had to get used to him and what he wanted. The type of player he wanted and the style he wanted as that being my first time trying to get used to it. We didn’t jell. It didn’t mesh right. My play didn’t work and the way he was coaching didn’t work for me.”

Jackson said he appreciates Vrabel for the work he has done in Tennessee even if the two of them did not get along. Jackson praised Vrabel, calling him “clever as hell” and a fine coach. And despite the poor chemistry between the coach and the player, Jackson claimed that over his three seasons with Vrabel, he had learned some valuable things.

It’s difficult to contest Vrabel’s accomplishments as the current NFL Coach of the Year. Even if Jackson had doubts about Vrabel being the best coach for him.
