The Hall of Fame slugger Jim Thome’s wife, Andrea Thome, had enough with a Cleveland radio station on Friday.

An intern was given a challenge by presenter Aaron Goldhammer to try to get Thome on the air during an edition of The Really Big Show on ESPN Cleveland. He would earn $100 if the intern was successful.

The radio station’s attempts, however, backfired when Andrea Thome took to social media to complain that the show was going too far with the on-air segment, blowing up her and her son’s notifications with requests in various postings.

The intern not only tagged Andrea in many posts and barraged her with demands, but he also tagged Thome’s teenage son (during his school days), his high school baseball team, and multiple coaches. Nick allegedly even gave the school a call. Andrea finally gave up.

“I am all about kindness and connection, but this is my personal account — not a vehicle for booking my husband on talk radio shows,” she wrote on X. “Please don’t berate me for that, and please don’t tag our children in those endeavors, either. He has an agent for a reason.”

“I did not have grown men on @ESPNCleveland bullying me on International Women’s Day because I won’t interrupt my husband while he is working across the country to call in so your intern can win $100,” Andrea posted. “How about I Venmo the kid and you guys back off?”

Sports talk radio hosts these kinds of competitions frequently, but in actuality, the station trusted an intern to handle its reputation, and that intern went above and above to get Thome on the show.

It’s very understandable how Andrea Thome would have been overwhelmed by the amount of messages from both the intern and ESPN Cleveland listeners, even if nothing he stated in his requests was nasty. It goes without saying that it was inappropriate to message Thome’s high school kid on social media.

Naturally, the Thome family is aristocratic in Cleveland. After being selected by Cleveland in the 1989 draft, Jim Thome played for the Indians for 12 seasons, including a 22-game reunion in 2011.

550 average for slugging. He was selected for five All-Star Games and four times placed among the top 10 players in his league’s MVP voting. He holds the record with 13 walk-off home runs in history. In 2018, Thome was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Did Jim Thome ever win a World Series?

Thome has nine postseason trips under his belt. But in 1997, after the Cleveland Indians were defeated by the Florida Marlins, he made his only appearance in the World Series. It’s interesting to note that among baseball’s finest players, losing a World Series is uncommon.

What is Jim Thome doing now?

The Hall of Famer and former White Sox slugger is a special assistant to Sox general manager Rick Hahn, president of the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association and part of the MLB Network broadcast team.
