Former NHL Player P.K. Subban Body Shames Singer Lizzo

On Tuesday night, P.K. Subban publicly body-shamed Lizzo while analyzing an NHL playoff game for ESPN. His remark was so offensive that many people online are now calling for the former All-Star to retract it.

The comment was made by Subban, who joined ESPN’s hockey coverage after his retirement in 2022, when he was analyzing Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Playoff series between the Panthers and the Maple Leafs.

After losing to the Florida Panthers in Game 1 on Tuesday, P.K. Subban had some advice for the Toronto Maple Leafs: bring a larger lunch the next time. Maybe eat twice as much as you usually would? Hell, just have a lunch the size of Lizzo and call it a day!

Yes, Subban visited that location during the ESPN postgame analysis after the Panthers won Game 1 in Toronto, telling the Leafs to wake up and calling Lizzo fat all in the same breath.

Social media users swiftly criticized the former New Jersey Devils defenceman for his remarks, with many urging him to apologise. Some Twitter users urged ESPN to discipline its top hockey analyst for the remark.

Subban and ESPN have not yet commented on the matter. Although she is accustomed to responding to remarks about her body, Lizzo hasn’t either.

One Twitter user said, “Lizzo sized lunch was inappropriate and unprofessional.”

Another person said, “Your comment was super tacky and unnecessary.”

Some people asked with Subban to “apologize” and “do better.”

Subban played for the Montreal Canadiens, Nashville Predators, and New Jersey Devils during the course of 13 NHL seasons.

Regarding Lizzo, the music icon recently won her fourth Grammy for Record of the Year for her song “About Damn Time.”
