Former NFL QB Brett Favre Drops Defamation Chargers Against Pat McAfee
In February, Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre alleged that Pat McAfee, Shannon Sharpe, Shad White, and the Mississippi State Auditor had all defamed him and therefore he filed a lawsuit against them for Defamation!
According to Pat McAfee’s complaint, the Pro Football Hall of Fame tight end is accused of making “egregiously false and defamatory statements” against Favre on his show.
Pat McAfee and Shannon Sharpe’s comments about Brett Favre’s role in the Mississippi welfare crisis have led the quarterback to decide to sue them for defamation.

Allegations have been made that the Hall of Fame quarterback used his clout to redirect funds from a roughly $77 million welfare fund to the building of a volleyball court at the University of Southern Mississippi, where he attended school. At the time, his daughter was a student there and played volleyball. Additionally, he was charged with billing for talks he never gave. He has purportedly paid back the fees but not the interest, despite having done so.
The accusations have always been denied by Brett Favre, who is now putting his money where his mouth is. He is suing Mississippi auditor Shad White, Pat McAfee, and Shannon Sharpe for making “defamatory charges.”

Former NFL QB Brett Favre Drops Defamation Chargers Against Pat McAfee
Brett Favre, however, has withdrawn the defamation claim he had made against media figure Pat McAfee.
Both parties to the argument broke the news on Thursday.
In response, McAfee filed a lawsuit in March seeking to have Favre’s case dismissed. He claimed that his remarks about the quarterback’s involvement in the Mississippi welfare scandal were protected by the First Amendment, were neither incorrect nor met the strict standard of “actual malice” necessary in a defamation case.

At the outset of his YouTube program on Thursday, McAfee declared that Favre was withdrawing the defamation lawsuit he had brought against him in February for remarks he had made in public regarding the misuse of welfare funds in Mississippi.
“As many of you know, Brett Favre sued me over statements that I made about him on this program,” McAfee stated as his show began. “As I confirmed in my court papers and I repeat here, my statements expressed in comedic style were based solely on public information and allegations. As I have previously stated, I respect the hell out of Brett Favre the football player and his Hall of Fame career on the field, and I have no personal knowledge about any case involving Brett in Mississippi.
“I am pleased to report based solely on me again clarifying these points now, with no settlement paid, Brett is withdrawing his suit against me. I would much rather talk about sports than about lawsuits, so I’m glad we have all of this behind us. We now move on.”
