Former Giants Star Tiki Barber’s Comment On The Team’s Current RB Saquon Barkley Created Controversy

Tiki Barber, a former running back for the New York Giants, asserted that the offence of the team wouldn’t collapse entirely without Saquon Barkley.

Former Giants Star Tiki Barber’s Comment On The Team’s Current RB Saquon Barkley Created Controversy

Running back Saquon Barkley and the New York Giants are still embroiled in a contract dispute. The deadline for a request for an extension of time is July 17, and little has been accomplished.

It’s unclear where this train is going if the two parties are unable to reach an agreement by that time. Although it appears improbable, Barkley has kept the option of sitting out the entire season open.

Speaking on Barkley’s reluctance to accept his $10.1 million franchise tender while both parties continue to negotiate a long-term agreement, the former running back made the audacious forecast.

The market for running backs and Barkley’s history of injuries, according to Barber on his WFAN program “Tiki & Tierney,” give the Giants the advantage in talks.

“That’s the M.O.: The running back is gonna get hurt, so why pay him?” Barber said. “I know Giant fans want Saquon Barkley on this team and feel like they need Saquon on this team — but the fact is, if he’s not on this team, I honestly don’t know if they’d be worse off.

“I think they would be because of the locker room, but I can’t say for a fact, ‘This team won’t win 10 games without Saquon Barkley.’ I can’t say that.”

The Giants and team captain Barkley have until July 17 to come to an agreement on a new deal.

If not, the running back must agree to pay $10.1 million for the franchise tag offer in 2023 or refuse to sign it and sit out.

What if Barkley declines to sign his $10.1 million franchise tender, depriving the Giants of one of their top offensive players?
