The former professional running back didn’t use a gun, but it was said that he was going after small businesses in his home state and hometown, such gas stations. He reportedly got his thefts by intimidating workers into giving him what he needed with his 6′ 230lb physique.

According to Los Angeles police, Ward, 43, is suspected of robbing at least five establishments, including petrol stations. Police said that they did not suspect the 6-foot, 230-pound guy of carrying a gun during any of those acts.

According to prison records, Ward was in LAPD custody on Tuesday, detained in lieu of $250,000 bail.

Along with Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs, he was a member of the explosive Giants backfield that earned the moniker “Earth, Wind, and Fire.”

Ward broke his left fibula in Week 13, ending his season, and missed the Super Bowl when the Giants played the 18-0 Patriots in February 2008.

“One of the hardest experiences I’ve ever been through,” Ward told The Post at the time. “Being able to finally do something in the league and help contribute to the season we had and that not be able to play in the Super Bowl, I always dreamed about that when I was a little kid. I was just excited my teammates got me a Super Bowl ring.”

Raised in Southern California, Ward was selected in the seventh round by the New York Jets in 2004 but was waived before appearing in a single game during the regular season.

Before retiring from the NFL in 2012, he played for the Giants from 2004 to 2008, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2009, and the Houston Texans from 2010 to 2011.

He played for the Giants as a member of the formidable “Earth, Wind, and Fire” running back trio, which also included Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs.

In 2008, Ward had his greatest NFL season with 1,025 yards and two touchdowns from rushing on 182 touches.

The Buccaneers signed Ward to a four-year, $17 million contract in 2009; however, he was cut the following year and joined the Texans.

Ward amassed 2,628 running yards on 551 attempts and 12 touchdowns in 93 NFL games.
