Five Things You Did Not Know About Reigning League MVP Nikola Jokic

As the NBA grows every year, we are witnessing more players from all around the world make it big in the league. Nikola Jokic is one example of the same. The 27-year-old is currently in his eighth season in the NBA and he has only gone from strength to strength. Unlike most traditional recruits in the NBA, Jokic did not got to college in the United States, Jokic played for leagues in Europe before he decided to pursue his dream of playing in the NBA. 

Jokic was selected as the 41st pick in the second round of the draft by the Denver Nuggets where he has stayed ever since he joined. The Nuggets are currently atop the Western Conference table with 34 wins and 15 losses to their name. We take a look at five things fans might not know about Jokic. 

Born in Yugoslavia 

Jokic was born in former Yugoslavia before it became Serbia. During his time in his home country, Jokic played and dominated nearly every tournament as a child as well as an adult. It was clear from a very early age that Jokic was destined for greatness. 

Beaten out by the likes of Andrew Wiggins

In the 2014 NBA draft, Nikola Jokic was beaten out by the likes of Andrew Wiggins, Joel Embiid, and Julius Randle, who were all drafted ahead of him. It is safe to say that given how things have played out, a lot of teams definitely regret passing up on Jokic. 

Height 

Nikola Jokic stands at a towering six-foot-eleven-inches, despite that he was not the tallest player in the team up until last season. Since the departure of Bol Bol, Nikola Jokic is now the tallest man on his team. 

An exclusive club 

Nikola Jokic won back-to-back MVP awards in the 2021 and 2022 seasons. He became only the 13th individual since the inception of the award to do so. He has a chance to join the likes of Larry Bird, Bill Russell, and Wilt Chamberlain as the only three players to win three back-to-back MVP titles if he gets the job done this season. 

Triple double 

He has the fastest triple-double in NBA history with it only taking him fourteen minutes and thirty-three seconds to do it.
