Michael Porter Jr. was born and raised in Columbia, Missouri. His father was a basketball coach and naturally pushed his son toward the sport. Michael Porter Jr. was a natural from a very young age and shone in all junior levels of the sport. He was branded a five-star recruit after he was done with school.
Draft selection
Michael Porter Jr. was selected as the 14th pick in the first round of the 2018 NBA draft. He was beaten by the likes of Deandre Ayton, Luka Doncic, and TraeYoung, most notably among others. Safe to say Michael Porter Jr has justified a high draft selection by the Nuggets.

In the 2016 summer, Porter joined Mokan Elite on the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL) averaging 26.2 points and 11.5 rebounds per game leading them to the Nike EYBL Peach Jam championship and was named Co-MVP alongside teammate and future NBA player Trae Young.

Porter was named MVP of the McDonald’s All-American game and was awarded Naismith and Gatorade Player of the Year awards. He’s just the fifth high schooler to grab all three honors, joining Dwight Howard (’04), LeBron James (’03), Chris Webber (’91) and Alonzo Mourning (’88).
