First Responder Bowl: Frustrated College Football Referee Ed Ardito Speaks Into The Microphone

If the Rice vs. Texas State First Responder Bowl didn’t catch your eye when you were idly looking for anything to watch on Tuesday night, you’re definitely not alone, but the game included a lot of amazing moments.

First Responder Bowl: Frustrated College Football Referee Ed Ardito Speaks Into The Microphone

In addition to Texas State’s victory in the program’s inaugural bowl game, the crowd that travelled to Dallas for the game was completely sold out by the middle of the third quarter.

Even though the stadium was filled with celebration, viewers were treated to a special treat when the referee used his hot mic to yell obscenities for the whole world to hear.

It’s reasonable to argue that Ed Ardito, the college football referee, was a good fit for the latter description on Tuesday during the Dallas First Responder Bowl.

Ardito was announcing a Texas State timeout in the third quarter, which he had initially referred to as a 30-second timeout.

However, that was untrue, and upon realizing it, he responded to his live microphone in a very personal way.

He exclaimed, “Damnit!” and then corrected himself, saying, “It was a full media timeout.”

Ardito had to clarify offsetting penalties in a penalty statement he had made later in the fourth quarter of the game.

Social media users appeared to be enjoying the official’s hot mic moment and the manner he received through the penalty calls.

That wasn’t the end for Ardito. He had to amend a penalty pronouncement in the fourth quarter following his initial “damnit” call.

In revealing the compensatory fines, Ardito chose to take his time and ensure that every detail was covered, appearing worn out in the process.

In addition to the referee’s difficult evening, it appears that the stadium merchants underestimated the amount of alcohol that the 26,542 attendees would drink.

Social media users who attended the game expressed dissatisfaction over the Texas State side of the stadium selling out of booze before the first half concluded.

Although Rice and Texas State were tied at 21 points in the first half, the Bobcats eventually won the game with 24 unanswered points.
