Fans Slam NBA Players Union For Speaking In Support Of Ja Morant
Ja Morant, a star player for the Memphis Grizzlies, was suspended by the NBA on Friday for 25 games after footage of the 23-year-old showing him brandishing a gun in an Instagram Live video surfaced. This is Morant’s third suspension this year due to a string of off-court incidents, but the NBA Players Association called the suspension “excessive.”

The 25-game punishment imposed on Ja Morant has angered the National Basketball Players Association.

“As to the discipline imposed, which keeps him off the court until December and requires some unstated conditions to be met before he can return, we believe it is excessive and inappropriate for a number of reasons including the facts involved in this particular incident, and that it is not fair and consistent with past discipline in our league. We will explore with Ja all options and next steps.”

Due to “conduct detrimental to the league,” Morant will be suspended for the first 25 games of the forthcoming 2023–2024 NBA season without pay, the NBA declared.
Morant “intentionally and prominently displayed” a gun from the passenger seat of a car, according to a statement, despite “having made commitments” that he would “not repeat the conduct for which he was previously disciplined”.
Good luck with this.
Not surprised that the union is trying to protect one of its players though.#NBA #JaMorant https://t.co/pxuQZGsCVe

Morant had been suspended in March after he was caught on camera holding a gun at a Denver strip club and had since apologized for the incident.

The Grizzlies guard first claimed he had learned his lesson after returning, but it didn’t take him long to show that was not the case when he repeated the mistake in the middle of May, thereby guaranteeing he wouldn’t be playing for Memphis at the start of the 2023 campaign.
