Fans Blame Rapper Drake & His Jersey For Shohei Ohtani’s UCL Injury

Shohei Ohtani’s American League All-Star shirt was spotted on Canadian musician and global icon Drake. Few people at the time gave the fashion decision much thought.

Fans Blame Rapper Drake & His Jersey For Shohei Ohtani’s UCL Injury

Fans are looking for an explanation after the two-way megastar tore his UCL on Wednesday night, barring him from pitching again this season. Some are confident in an unusual explanation.

One baseball YouTuber, “Baseball Doesn’t Exist,” published a hypothesis on X (previously Twitter) on Thursday morning that has since gone popular. The theory claims that rap musician Drake ruined Ohtani’s season by donning his jersey earlier this month, resulting in the continuation of the infamous “Drake curse.”

After the image of Drake wearing his jersey appeared in early August, the YouTuber outlines a string of setbacks for Ohtani’s season, writing: “8/3 — leaves start early with hand cramp, 8/13 — experiencing arm fatigue and misses start, 8/23 — leaves start early with arm fatigue, 8/24 — Diagnosed with torn UCL, won’t [pitch] again this season.”

Ohtani’s record season, in which he has pitched 132 innings with a 3.14 ERA and hit a league-high 44 home runs while maintaining a 1.069 OPS at the plate, has been severely damaged by the UCL rupture.

Since the artist made the decision to support Ohtani, the Los Angeles Angels have been on the decline. The Halos have actually deteriorated and are currently 10.5 games outside of the wild card despite signing numerous seasoned MLB talent before to the trade deadline.

Shohei Ohtani is about to miss the playoffs for the fifth consecutive year. The Angels’ Wednesday announcement that the Japanese star will not continue to throw this season due to a torn UCL only served to make matters worse.

Fans are prepared to link the injury directly to Drake’s influence because clubs and sportsmen have experienced big changes in fortune as a result of his backing.

For instance, many criticize Drake for berating the 2016 Warriors, who lost the NBA Finals after the singer and rapper French Montana wagered $60,000 on them.

The unstable quarterback notoriously flamed out of the league after only two years, and Drake also released the song “Draft Day” just days before Johnny Manziel was selected in the 2014 NFL Draft. Manziel was the subject of the anthem, which Drake dedicated to his friend.
