Ex- NFL GM Mike Tannenbaum Says Russell Wilson Will Most Likely Be Benched This Season
Russell Wilson, the quarterback for the Denver Broncos, is seeking redemption in 2023 after a subpar first campaign. The quarterback is teamed with Sean Payton, the new head coach, in the hopes that the two may perform some sort of magic.
Ex- NFL GM Mike Tannenbaum Says Russell Wilson Will Most Likely Be Benched This Season
A former NFL general manager, though, believes Payton might use Wilson as a scapegoat. Mike Tannenbaum, an ESPN analyst, boldly speculated on Get Up whether Wilson will play the full season.
Mike Tannenbaum on Russell Wilson:
"I would be shocked if Russell Wilson was the starter for 17 games this season… If Russell Wilson has the smallest bump in the road, he will be benched." 😳

Tannenbaum thinks Sean Payton, the head coach of the Broncos, may sit Wilson to make a point to the team’s younger players.
“I know the way Sean thinks,” Tannenbaum added. “I’m just telling you, if Russell Wilson has the smallest bump in the road, he will be benched.”

Tannenbaum, a significant front-office official with the Jets and Dolphins at different points in time, believes Payton’s biggest priority this year will be creating a culture in Denver. Being harsh on Wilson could be the greatest way to set the bar.
“The conversations that Sean Payton is having with ownership is, ‘Year 1 is about culture and accountability.’ He’s going to see Russell Wilson as an opportunity to hold players accountable,” Tannenbaum said. “If Russell Wilson has the smallest bump in the road, he will be benched, and Sean’s going to look at it as an opportunity to set the culture and the standard moving forward.”

Through the addition of Jarrett Stidham to a two-year, $10 million contract, the Broncos strengthened their quarterback pool. Last season, he played little for the Raiders but showed flashes of brilliance, finishing 63.9 per cent of his passes for 656 yards, four touchdowns, and three interceptions.
My first question to Russell Wilson had to be about losing FIFTEEN pounds.

Wilson’s deal with the Broncos would rank among the worst in NFL history if Payton ended up benching him. Wilson may rejoice that the season hasn’t yet begun.
