ESPN’s Brian Windhorst On Zion Williamson’s Trade Rumors: “I am kind of surprised at how out there it is”

According to NBA speculations, the New Orleans Pelicans may think about dealing Zion Williamson in order to advance in the draft and choose a player of Scoot Henderson’s ability. In his article on these speculations for ESPN, Brian Windhorst stated that the Pelicans are one of the teams hoping to move up before the draft the next week.

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst On Zion Williamson’s Trade Rumors: “I am kind of surprised at how out there it is”

Benjamin Williamson has struggled with injuries for the most of his NBA career, which has led some to assume that the New Orleans Pelicans want to get rid of him.

According to recent reports, the team reportedly discussed trading Williamson with teams at the top of the draft next month, a move that may have strained his relationship with the company.

Williamson’s connection to the Pelicans is almost nonexistent, claims ESPN’s Brian Windhorst.

“I am kind of surprised at how out there it is,” Windhorst said during an appearance on “The Dan Patrick Show” on Thursday. “Over the last three or four days, as I talk to more and more teams, I continue to hear more conversations that the Pelicans are having about [trading Williamson].”

Williamson has averaged 25.8 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 3.6 assists while shooting over 60% from the field since joining the Pelicans. He has also made two All-Star games, but his performance off the court has never been a problem.

He said that although there hasn’t been any action yet, the Pels are really considering it. For them to do that, they’ll probably need to trade a great player like Zion.

“One team that has emerged that really would like to move up from their spot at 14th are the New Orleans Pelicans, potentially hunting a star-caliber player, maybe like a guy like Scoot Henderson.”

“The Pelicans have had some cursory discussions from what I’ve been told. There haven’t been any offers made necessarily yet, but it makes you not really take too far of a leap to wonder… If the Pelicans are gonna make for the first time truly Zion Williamson available.”

The 14th pick in the draft belongs to the New Orleans Pelicans. Since his debut, the No. 1 selection in 2019 has appeared in 114 games. He played 24 games in his rookie season, 61 of 72 in his sophomore year, and 29 last season before missing the whole 2021–22 season, during which the Pels reached the playoffs.
