ESPN Colleagues Kirk Herbstreit & Ryan Leaf Engage In A Beef
After Lee Corso mentioned Washington State-Oregon State during College GameDay, former quarterback Ryan Leaf chimed in, prompting Kirk Herbstreit to respond.
During the broadcast, Corso referred to the Washington State-Oregon State game as the “no one watches bowl,” referring to the two surviving Pac-12 teams without a new league to call home.
Ryan Leaf had some choice words for Lee Corso and the "College GameDay" crew.
But Kirk Herbstreit quickly came to Corso's defense — firing back at Leaf on X.https://t.co/bqgBoVt19P

And Leaf, the Washington State Cougars’ quarterback, took it personally.
“And @CollegeGameDay is supposed to be a celebration of #CFB,” Leaf posted on X. “Instead, they choose to make it a big joke, and everyone on the panel enables it. Just a bunch of wind socks. #CougsvsEverybody.”
That’s when Herbstreit responded with a quote tweet.

“Huh? Is this a real tweet??? Ryan, you must have been hacked,” Herbstreit wrote. “Lee’s point OBVIOUSLY was is 2 teams that have been left out that haven’t found a home yet the ‘no one watches Bowl’. Know you’re excited your boys won but DAMN!”
While Corso may not have meant it as a jab, it’s understandable that colleges like Washington State and Oregon State feel betrayed by the college football power brokers.

On Saturday evening, Washington State defeated Oregon State in a close, entertaining game.
After Saturday’s game, Washington State head coach Jake Dickert also spoke with Corso and the GameDay team.
“Coach Corso, he’s now at the point where they give him the sheet, he reads off of it, and they try to make a joke, but it didn’t even make sense,” Dickert explained.

“It’s well-documented what ESPN has done to try to get our league to where it’s at,” Dickert said. “I would love to have a conversation with Coach Corso about the value that he sees in breaking up the premier West Coast conference. I would love to have a conversation with Coach Corso about how he thinks student-athletes and mental health and flying them all over the country is a positive thing.”
