Eric Bieniemy Speaks On Which NFL Offer He Gave Up Before Joining UCLA
According to sources, on Saturday night, Eric Bieniemy, the former offensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders, is nearing a two-year contract to become an assistant head coach and offensive coordinator for UCLA.

DeShaun Foster, the new coach of UCLA, made a big hire with this move as he looks to establish an NFL identity with the Bruins. Bieniemy, who grew up nearby and served as a Bruins assistant from 2003 to 2005, is also returning home.
“Southern California,” Bieniemy wrote in an email Saturday. “I attended high school there. I started my career in the league here [with the Chargers]. It’s obviously great to be back with the Bruins, where I was previously employed.”

Bieniemy responded to the statement shortly after it was made, explaining in an email that ESPN was able to acquire why he had not been hired as a head coach at the professional level in the previous seasons.
“I have had countless conversations and interviews with many teams, and I have been applauded and lauded,” Bieniemy wrote. “I can’t say why certain decisions were or were not made, but it had nothing to (do) with a lack of anything on my end.”
“My self-dignity, worth, integrity, personhood, manhood will never be questioned or compromised. It is not always about money, either. With everything in life, it is often all about timing. At this time in my life, the opportunity affords me the pleasure of continuing to be a maker and leader of men, to do what I love, follow my passion and my dreams while not compromising on who I am as a man.”

It will be Bieniemy’s first college job since working as Colorado’s offensive coordinator from 2011 to 2012.
Bieniemy won two Super Bowls as the Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator and developed into a highly sought-after coaching candidate. Bieniemy’s offenses never finished lower than sixth in points scored and eleventh in yards during his five seasons with the squad. Interviews with the Detroit Lions, Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Jets, Atlanta Falcons, and other teams followed this accomplishment. To the consternation of the NFL community, teams chose to go in different paths each time.
“This is a great opportunity for me to help support DeShaun as a head coach, to work with him and to work for him as well,” Bieniemy wrote. “My goal is to help him to be a successful head coach in our profession.
Happy for Eric Bieniemy becoming the Offensive Coordinator and Associate Head Coach at @UCLAFootball as reported by @PeteThamel and @AdamSchefter , but how this man can’t get a Head Coaching job in the NFL or in College is UNBELIEVABLE. pic.twitter.com/2t5qravhdg

“It’s an opportunity for my family and I to return back to a place that we once called home.”
Bieniemy joins the Bruins with sixteen years of NFL experience. Bieniemy was the offensive coordinator for the Commanders for the 2023 season. From 2018 to 2022, he was the offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs, where he won two Super Bowls.
Bieniemy feels that as a coach who attended five consecutive conference championship games—including three Super Bowl appearances—he brings a wealth of experience to the Bruins that will pay off in the recruiting trail.
