Eagles WR Devon Allen Triumphs In The 110-Meter Hurdles

The Eagles’ 2023 offseason program is underway as Devon Allen makes his comeback to the field, but Lincoln Financial is not involved.

Eagles WR Devon Allen Triumphs In The 110-Meter Hurdles

Devon Allen, a potential wide receiver for the Philadelphia Eagles, took first place in the 110-meter hurdles Olympic Development competition at the Penn Relays on Saturday.

In a close race, Brazilian Rafael Pereira lost to Allen by just 0.002 seconds (13.457 to 13.459).

Although it was closer than Allen might have preferred, he was content to have it now rather than wait until a bigger event.

Allen’s other Eagles teammates, including Jake Elliott, Tyrie Cleveland, Greg Ward, Ian Book, and Tyree Jackson, were present for the triumph. In 2014 and 2016, Allen, who had a stellar track and field career, won the 110-meter hurdles event at the NCAA Division I Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships. He also took part in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he raced in the 110-meter hurdles and placed fifth.

“When you’ve got somebody right next to you, you start to focus on them a little bit, and that’s the goal — not to focus on them,” he said. “It’s good to have that because I don’t want the first time I have people around me to be at the World Champs.”

That was a reference to the World Athletics Championships that will take place in August and in which Allen plans to compete. At the USA Track and Field NYC Grand Prix last year, he ran a 12.84, which is the third-fastest time ever.

Allen praised everyone on the Eagles staff—coaches included—for helping him succeed in playing two sports. He also acknowledged several of his teammates who were present at Franklin Field, including Tyree Jackson, Jake Elliott, Tyrie Cleveland, Greg Ward, and Ian Book.

Allen also complimented the spectators for sticking around despite the cloudy skies all day. Pereira, a first-time visitor, saw the energetic mood.

In addition to his achievements in track and field, Allen was a wide receiver for the University of Oregon’s football team. He participated in the 2015 College Football Playoff National Championship game and was a part of the Rose Bowl champions.

Allen spent the entire 2022 NFL season on the Eagles’ practice squad after consistently demonstrating enough to be kept on the roster. He wants to take the next step in his quest to participate in gamedays in the 2023 season this offseason.
