Eagles OTA: QB Jalen Hurts Is Enjoying The Thrill That Comes With Being Unsatisfied

In Super Bowl LVII in February, Jalen Hurts came very close to leading the Eagles to victory over the Chiefs.

A record-breaking contract extension made Hurts, who will make his first Pro Bowl participation in 2022, the second highest-paid player in NFL history.

In his second full season as a starter, the 24-year-old quarterback who was selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft became one of the league’s brightest emerging stars.

Hurts had a stellar Super Bowl, passing for 304 yards and one touchdown while running for 70 yards and three more. He was defeated by Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs 38-35, but he also fumbled the ball away and it was recovered for a touchdown.

In April, the Eagles rewarded Hurts with a $255 million, five-year contract extension that was the richest in NFL history until Lamar Jackson surpassed it two weeks later.

But the 24-year-old claims he is not satisfied with being atop the league as a new season approaches. The Eagles quarterback said he will continue to enjoy the “thrill” of fighting for the NFL’s top prize until Hurts leads Philadelphia to a Super Bowl triumph.

Hurts is putting in “madman” effort to become even better.

“Everybody aspires to be the best and works to be the best, but ultimately you have to find some separation,” Hurts said on the AP Pro Football Podcast. “And that’s the thrill. There’s a thrill in not being satisfied and there’s a thrill in being on this journey, and I have embraced that. I love this game and I know my purpose within this game. I truly just want to be intentional. … So every day I just try to be the best that I can be and that is not based off of external factors. Those things don’t matter. You just try and control what you can.”

In addition, Hurts earned a master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma during a hectic off-season that saw him make his acting debut in a Teyana Taylor short film. Hurts has agreed to a multiyear contract with A Shoc beverages to advertise its Accelerator energy drinks in exchange for an ownership investment in the company.

Hurts made sure to stay focused on enhancing his game despite a busy schedule throughout the summer. Both offensive coordinator Brian Johnson and Eagles coach Nick Sirianni praise his work ethic.

The former Oklahoma standout accumulated 35 total touchdowns, 760 running yards, and 3,701 throwing yards.

He intends to do better.
