Any Super Bowl has some inherent distractions, but the Eagles are currently dealing with an undesirable one after backup offensive tackle Josh Sills was charged in his native Ohio with rape and kidnapping.

The announcement was made on Wednesday, and TMZ broke the news first.

Ten days before the NFC champions and AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs are scheduled to square off in Super Bowl LVII, the news broke.

Eagles’ Josh Sills Indicted On Rape And Kidnapping Charges

According to the allegations, Stills “engaged in sexual behaviour that was not voluntary and held a victim against her will” on December 5, 2019, in Guernsey County, Ohio.

After conducting an investigation into the allegations, the Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office brought the matter before a grand jury, which indicted Sills on one felony count of rape and one felony count of kidnapping.

Sills, 25, joined the Eagles this spring and summer as an undrafted rookie free agency. He remained on the 53-man roster for the duration of the season but only appeared in one game, at Arizona on October 9, where he made his NFL debut with four special teams snaps.

Along with defensive backs Reed Blankenship and Josh Jobe, he was one of three UDFAs to reach the Eagles squad this summer.

Sills started his college career at West Virginia and finished it at Oklahoma State. During training camp, renowned offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland noticed Sills’ flexibility.

Four days following the Super Bowl, on February 16, Sills received a summons to appear in court.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Eagles released a canned statement.

“The organization is aware of the legal matter involving Josh Sills,” the statement read. “We have been in communication with the league office and are in the process of gathering more information. We have no further comment at this time.”
