Dwight Howard To Play Overseas: Announces His Joining To A Taiwanese Team

Dwight Howard is moving his career outside of the NBA after 18 seasons.

The three-time Defensive Player of the Year and eight-time All-NBA centre made his affiliation with the Taoyuan Leopards official on Monday. Dwight Howard announced it in a video posted on social media.

I can’t wait to see the fans, eat the food and have the best time ever … and bring a championship,” the 36-year-old centre said in a social media post.

Dwight Howard To Play Overseas: Announces His Joining To A Taiwanese Team

Dwight Howard has joined the Taoyuan Leopards, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium. The eight-time NBA All-Star last campaign was a member of the Los Angeles Lakers.  One of the greatest NBA players ever, Dwight Howard, has played a supporting role the past few seasons despite being an eight-time All-Star.

The 36-year-old is currently playing in the 2022–2023 NBA season without having been signed by a franchise. During his stint with the Los Angeles Lakers last season, Howard averaged 6.2 points and 5.9 rebounds in little over 16 minutes of action per game. It’s surprising that no team signed him because he was a reliable role player.

Howard is still interested in playing in the NBA. In October, he expressed interest in joining the Golden State Warriors to Fox Sports’ Shannon Sharpe, where he described tutoring previous No. 2 overall choice James Wiseman and setting screens for Stephen Curry.

Golden State and other NBA teams didn’t seem to share that sentiment, as Howard was still without a contract three weeks into the new campaign. In the same interview, Howard admitted to Sharpe that he felt disrespected by NBA teams’ lack of interest in him and by his exclusion from the league’s 75th-anniversary squad.

“I really can’t believe how disrespected I feel,” Dwight Howard told Sharpe.

In his prime, Howard was a formidable defender, rebounder, and scorer. The Basketball Hall of Fame is where he will go. But the game has changed away from big men with Howard’s skill set and toward the perimeter, a shift that was started during Howard’s peak.

His days in the NBA seem to be numbered at age 36. At least for the moment. Later in the season, there’s still a potential that a team in need of post assistance will contact you. However, Howard is no longer impatient.
