Drew Brees returns to Purdue, iconic NFL QB takes up assistant coaching role at college football team

Drew Brees made a sensational return to Purdue on Thursday, after it was confirmed that the NFL legend will take up an interim assistant coaching role with the college football team. The Boilermakers have a Bowl game to play on January 2, 2023, against the LSU in the Citrus Bowl.

As per reports, the 12-time Pro Bowler will be working beside student-athletes and will also be part of the recruiting team to help the college land the best prospects.

Brees spent 20 years in the NFL with the San Diego Chargers and New Orleans Saints, but prior to that, he was part of the Purdue Boilermakers football team where he initially began making a name for himself. The quarterback spent four years at Purdue and led the team to a Rose Bowl as he became the school’s all-time leading passer.

What did Drew Brees say about his new role at Purdue?

While speaking on WWL Radio on Thursday, Brees said, “I think this is an opportunity to play against one of the best programs in the country. The fact that I have a chance to impact our student-athletes, our football players, with coaching and mentorship over the next few weeks and then have a chance to the game plan and get back in the mix a little bit and walk the sidelines … obviously with the Tigers, this will be a lot of fun.”

Drew Brees will certainly be able to share a lot of his experiences in the NFL and college football with the athletes that he will be training. This would be a great opportunity for the youngsters to work with one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.
