During a recent appearance on Clippers star Paul George’s podcast, Podcast P, Warriors forward Draymond Green had a lot to say.

The player that received the most attention before this year’s draft was Wembanyama. “Wemby” is undoubtedly a remarkable talent even among the many we have seen over the years. He has been dubbed by many as the most talented prospect since LeBron James.

Prior to last month’s draft, Wembanyama, who the Spurs officially reported as 7-foot-3 12, was predicted to go first overall after averaging 21.6 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 2.4 assists with the Metropolitans 92 this season.
Coach Gregg Popovich earned his newest blossoming star to build the club around when the Spurs won the NBA Draft lottery.
However, there may be additional factors that influence Wembanyama’s move to the NBA.
It's almost time!

Victor Wembanyama, a 19-year-old Frenchman, is the first choice in the 2023 NBA Draft by the Spurs. Warriors star Draymond Green sees the Frenchman’s ability and potential, but he feels that “people are setting him up for failure.”
“Man, it’s hard in this NBA,” Green said during an episode of “Podcast P with Paul George.” “It’s hard to become an All-Star in this league. Now if he do, God be with him. More power to you. But to say he’s gonna be an All-Star next year as if he don’t have to figure this game out, I don’t really buy that. I think he will be special, but an All-Star next year? I think that’s a bit much.”

Green worries that NBA defenders will make it difficult for him to handle the ball as well as before, and that Wembanyama may not shoot 3-pointers as frequently either.
Players might get to a point where “it becomes a disservice in this league,” with equally powerful or quick opponents playing at a lesser level.
Victor Wembanyama is getting set up ‘for failure’
Draymond Green, as much as anyone, knows how difficult it is to become an NBA All-Star. The 33-year-old compiled three consecutive All-Star honors early in his career (2016-18), with his most recent being in 2022. “I’m sorry, but you’re not just dribbling through me like the Harlem Globetrotters,” Green said when Paul asked how he would guard Wembanyama. “… But you gotta press up into him. You can’t let him get comfortable. If you let him get comfortable you lose, because you’re not blocking his shot. He may not even see your contest, like he’s 7-5 and he shoot the ball up here.”
According to Green, the rookie’s defensive contributions, which consist of keeping his opponents from scoring the ball rather than attempting to come up with his own offense, might become “as elite as we have in the NBA.”

As disadvantageous it is being pushed into All Star with all the hype, Victor has a lot of defensive advantages.
