Dodgers Vs Cardinals 2023: Max Muncy Gets Ejected For Arguing With The Umpire
Max Muncy was dismissed by Emmel in the fourth inning of the Dodgers’ 10-5 defeat to the St. Louis Cardinals after being rung up on a called strike.
Umpire Paul Emmel was at the centre of another controversy with the Dodgers on Sunday, the day after his contentious called third strike ended one of the team’s losses.
Emmel, who cycled to third base on Sunday, did so after hearing Muncy argue about the call as he made his way back to the dugout.

Dodgers Vs Cardinals 2023: Max Muncy Gets Ejected For Arguing With The Umpire
After Muncy was ruled out on strikes in the fourth inning, the player was ejected. The 2-2 pitch was in the zone near enough that Muncy didn’t have a good argument. The previous pitch, which was almost in the same spot but was judged a ball, caused Muncy to lose control of his emotions.
With one out in the top of the fourth inning, Max Muncy went to the plate. A fastball from Jack Flaherty that on television appeared to skim the edge of the strike zone was declared a ball on a 1-2 count.

To Muncy’s dismay, the next pitch, which seemed to be at a comparable height, was again ruled a ball by home plate umpire Nic Lentz.
Back in the dugout, Muncy made his way while still voicing his displeasure. He swung his bat towards third base umpire Paul Emmel before turning his anger back on the goal.
"It was like the more you complained, the bigger zone you got."

In particular, Muncy blamed Emmel for a dubious strike three calls with two outs in the ninth inning of the game played the day before, which prevented the Dodgers from tying the score.
Immediately, Muncy started fuming — explaining later he felt Cardinals catcher Willson Contreras had “bullied” Lentz into a more favourable call.

“The pitch before was almost the exact same location,” Muncy said. “For the catcher to sit there and tell him that’s a terrible call and he missed it and needs to be better, and then the next one he gives it to him. That, to me, is where the frustration was coming from. I felt like that was happening all weekend long.”

Unfortunately for Muncy, his behaviour resulted in an instantaneous dismissal from the game.
Despite losing three of their four games to the Cardinals, the Dodgers are still 1.5 games ahead of them in the National League West.
