Dodgers reinstate C Austin Barnes from family emergency list
The Los Angeles Dodgers reinstated catcher Austin Barnes from the family emergency list in advance of Monday’s road series opener against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Catcher Tony Wolters, who was called up to replace Barnes before a weekend series against the Kansas City Royals, was designated for assignment.
The Dodgers gave no specifics about Barnes’ family emergency. He missed Los Angeles’ past three games. The veteran of eight seasons is batting .171 with four home runs and 15 RBIs, while agreeing to a two-year contract extension last month.
Barnes, 32, is a career .221 hitter with 28 home runs and 127 RBIs in 466 games for the Dodgers.
Wolters, 30, appeared in two games for the Dodgers at Kansas City, starting at catcher in Sunday’s series finale. He struck out three times in four at-bats. Over seven seasons with the Colorado Rockies, Chicago Cubs and Dodgers, he is batting .235 with seven home runs and 123 RBIs.
