Despite Criticism Yankees Owner Hal Steinbrenner Confirms Aaron Boone As The Manager For 2023 Season

Hal Steinbrenner, the majority owner of the New York Yankees, said on Wednesday that he intends to keep Aaron Boone as manager of the team, despite the criticism Aaron Boone received throughout the season and the team’s eventual sweep of the Houston Astros in the most recent American League Championship Series.

Aaron Boone Remains As Yankees Manager For The 2023 Season

Steinbrenner told The Associated Press on Wednesday that he is pleased with the job that Aaron Boone has done at the helm in the Bronx.

“As far as Boone’s concerned, we just signed him, and for all the same reasons I listed a year ago, I believe he is a very good manager,” Steinbrenner told Mark Didtler of AP. “I don’t see a change there.”

After the 2021 season, which was marred by inconsistent play and resulted in a loss in the American League Wild Card Game in Boston, Aaron Boone was re-signed on a three-year contract.

Aaron Boone’s fifth season with the Yankees got off to a remarkable start this year. New York exploded into the scene in the first half and was on track to break records. The 2022 season’s unique opening turned out to be a letdown. The Yankees had a terrible second half and came dangerously close to losing their lead in the American League East.

New York was swept by the top-seeded Houston Astros in the postseason’s Championship Series after needing five games to upset the Cleveland Guardians in the Division Series. The Yankees have now gone 13 years without winning the World Series after being eliminated by the Astros in the playoffs four times since 2015.

Steinbrenner failed to comment on Aaron Judge’s situation as the star outfielder approaches free agency this winter. After turning down a $213.5 million extension offer from the Yankees prior to Opening Day, Judge bet on himself and smashed 62 home runs during his record-setting regular season.
