Despite Caitlin Clark’s Success, Kim Mulkey Doesn’t Want Angel Reese To Follow Her Footsteps

Standout players Angel Reese and Hailey Van Lith’s futures are in jeopardy as LSU gets ready for another thrilling March Madness run. After playing four seasons of collegiate basketball, both players will be able to pick in the WNBA draft. But because of the difficulties brought on by the epidemic in their first year, they can choose to come back to LSU for a fifth season.

Kim Mulkey, the head coach, has chosen to take a supportive approach, letting Reese and Van Lith choose their own paths. Mulkey emphasized how crucial it is to honor the players’ initial pledges made when they enrolled at LSU.

Reese said he would stay for two years, while Van Lith said he would only stay for one. Even though they have the opportunity to return due to the COVID-19 eligibility criterion, Mulkey does not use pressure or influence, preferring that they make these decisions on their own.

“I’m not the type of coach to sit people down and tell them which agents to pick or talk them out of what they want to do,” Mulkeynoted.

“They know they have the COVID year to come back and they would be more than welcome, but I try to stay away from having any kind of influential conversation, particularly with Hailey and Angel because they made it perfectly clear when they came what they wanted to do.”

The players alone, free from outside influence, will decide Angel Reese and Van Lith’s status for the 2024–2025 season at LSU.

Clark makes a 2024 WNBA Draft declaration

“While this season is far from over and we have a lot more goals to achieve, it will be my last one at Iowa. I am excited to be entering the 2024 WNBA Draft,” she said.

“It is impossible to fully express. my gratitude to everyone who has supported me during my time at Iowa — my teammates, who made the last four years the best; my coaches, trainers and staff who always let me be me; Hawkeye fans who filled Carver every night; and everyone who came out to support us across the country, especially the young kids.

“Most importantly, none of this would have been possible without my family and friends who have been by my side through it all. Because of all of you, my dreams came true.”
