Derek Jeter Encourages The Yankees To Sign Juan Soto With The Hopes Of Building The Offence

The San Diego Padres’ Juan Soto is enjoying a strong season in 2023. The outfielder, who was named to the All-Star team for the third year in a row, is in high demand.

Derek Jeter wants to see the Padres and Yankees come together in a big deal if things keep going south with both clubs having poor seasons.

After Tuesday night’s All-Star Game, Derek Jeter, who has recently joined Alex Rodriguez and David Ortiz as MLB broadcasters for FOX, proposed a big proposal to the Bronx Bombers.

In a section titled “Trade You Would Like to See Happen,” Jeter pleaded with the Yankees to go west in order to improve their offensive — if the Padres don’t change their fortunes.

“I do believe the San Diego Padres could get hot and really make some waves in the National League West,” said Jeter, who was the Marlins co-owner and CEO in his time between Yankees player and FOX broadcaster.

“But if they don’t, I wouldn’t mind seeing the Yankees go out and get Juan Soto. You don’t know how long Judge is going to be out, they need some offense, I think it makes sense.”

San Diego is merely 43-47 this year despite boasting a number of notable stars, while New York is 49-42 and fourth in the AL East.

Soto has had a strong season, but the San Diego Padres have had trouble putting their act together.

As things stand, the Padres have little chance of making the playoffs unless they have a spectacular turnaround in the second half of the season.

The possibility of Soto departing the team before to the MLB trade deadline has been mentioned in speculations.

The Yankees have been without their best player Aaron Judge since June 3 due to a toe injury, and they are truly missing him. Soto has grown into one of MLB’s top talents throughout this time. The 24-year-old is hitting.265 for the 2023 season with 82 hits, 15 home runs, and three straight appearances in the All-Star Game.

Any offer for Soto, whose contract runs through 2024, would need to be sizable and presumably include some of the Yankees’ top prospects as well as future MLB talent.
