David Robertson Left Off NLDS Roster, Sustained Injury While Celebration
Prior to Tuesday’s commencement of their National League Division Series matchup against the Atlanta Braves, the Philadelphia Phillies’ bullpen took a hit. David Robertson, a right-handed reliever, was not included on the Phillies’ roster for the National League Division Series.
How David Robertson Injure Himself?
According to manager Rob Thomson, he strained his right calf while celebrating Bryce Harper’s home run in Game 2 of their victory over the St. Louis Cardinals in the Wild Card Series.
“He’s devastated,” Thomson said. “He knows how big a part he is to this club.
“I don’t know when he’s going to be available, but obviously, he’s off this round’s roster. Whether he’s available for the next round, we don’t know.”

This season, the Phillies have overcome the injuries to several important players. They face a new obstacle as they begin the National League Division Series. When Robertson leapt up in the dugout to celebrate Bryce Harper’s home run during Saturday night’s 2-0 victory in St. Louis, he injured his right calf muscle.

When the series roster was revealed three hours before Tuesday afternoon’s Game 1, the Phillies did not make the injury public.
In Robertson’s place, right-hander Nick Nelson was inserted into the roster. One more roster adjustment was made by the Phillies. Utility worker Dalton Guthrie was brought in to take the place of utility worker Nick Maton.

The 37-year-old David Robertson played for the Yankees for his first seven major league seasons before pitching for the White Sox, Rays, and Cubs. He was acquired from the Cubs during this year’s trade deadline and is currently in his second season with the Phillies.
During the regular season, Robertson made 58 appearances and pitched 63 1/3 innings. He had 81 strikeouts, 20 saves, a 2.40 ERA, and a 4-3 record.

At the first game of the wild-card round on Friday in St. Louis, Robertson threw one scoreless inning with two strikeouts. Right-hander Nick Nelson, who went 3-2 with a 4.85 ERA and 69 strikeouts in 68 2/3 innings during the regular season, has been brought in to replace Robertson by the Phillies.
