Davante Adams Future In Raiders Uncertain After Derek Carr Benching News

Davante Adams addressed Derek Carr’s benching.

Adams orchestrated a trade last summer to play with Derek Carr and the Raiders, moving away from Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. Adams made a remark about switching from one future Hall of Fame quarterback to another while they were teammates at Fresno State in college.

Carr’s future with the Raiders is in doubt after Josh McDaniels, the team’s head coach, decided to sit him for the rest of the season on Wednesday.

“I’m not gonna sit here and go on and on but obviously I support my guy,” Davante Adams told reporters on Wednesday. “We gotta finish this season up the best way we can, all things considered at this point.”

When asked if this situation alters how he sees his position with the Raiders, Davante Adams was evasive.

“We’ve got two games left,” he said. “We’ve got the Niners this week and we’ve got another game to go and finish so that’s all I’m really focused on.”

Adams and the Raiders agreed on a five-year, $140 million contract that neither party could back out of in the near future, even if they wanted to. The wide receiver’s dead cap is $31.4 million in 2023 and $23.6 million in 2024. Even though his contract has a clause for termination beyond 2024, the Raiders would still have to swallow a bitter pill because of the $15.7 million in dead cap in 2025.

Adams has had a generally disappointing season. In addition to the Raiders’ 6-9 record, Adams also lost his cool during a game in Kansas City when, following Las Vegas’ defeat, he shoved a production assistant to the ground.

Davante Adams did, however, have impressive stats with the Raiders this year. He has caught 88 passes for 1,290 yards and 12 touchdowns through 15 games. It’s unclear who will be throwing him the ball in the future, so his performance is uncertain.

Michael Irvin, a Hall of Fame quarterback, urged Tyreek Hill and Adams not to be too close to Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes before the season. The Dolphins are now 8-7 and are vying for an AFC playoff spot.

“You left Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes — I don’t know if I could’ve ever left Troy Aikman,” Irvin told The Post in April, shaking his head. “I don’t think I could’ve done that.”
