The details were made public after Berhalter mentioned how “a player” was almost expelled from the World Cup for failing to live up to expectations on and off the field during remarks at the HOW Institute for Society’s Summit on Moral Leadership in New York.
What makes this Claudio Reyna Gregg Berhalter story that much sadder is how the story of the Reynas and the Berhalters – two American soccer families – are linked from such an early age. pic.twitter.com/xI1Mz7nNLr

Although Berhalter omitted giving names, it was evident that he was referring to Gio Reyna, as the player later acknowledged in an Instagram post.
Gregg Berhalter and U.S. Soccer both issued statements on January 3 detailing a domestic abuse incident between Berhalter and his then-wife Rosalind in 1991.
I really don't understand Danielle Reyna's logic of both claiming Berhalter's domestic violence was more extensive than the public confession claimed, WHILE ALSO still trying to weaponize that info. That's really just inexcusable behavior

According to a statement from U.S. Soccer, a probe into a domestic abuse accusation that had been brought to the federation’s attention had been started. The declaration attested to hiring a law office to carry out the investigation.
The federation also “learned about potential inappropriate behaviour toward various members of our employees by individuals outside of our organisation,” according to the statement.

The event took place when the two were dating and was described in length in Berhalter’s statement, which was made public at the same time as the one from U.S. Soccer. According to what he said, Rosalind was kicked by Berhalter while they were out drinking at a bar.
The two put the event behind them when they got married in 1997, according to Berhalter, who claimed that the police were never involved.

The reason I’m telling you this tale now, 31 years later, is to make it clear that while it shaped me, it doesn’t define who I am.
Claudio, Reyna’s father, was a former captain of the American men’s team and is regarded as one of the best players in team history. In the early 1990s, his mother, Danielle, participated in six games for the American women’s national team.
