Daniel Snyder Dealt a Huge Blow Ahead of Proposed Sale of the Commanders for a Whopping $5.6 Billion

The Washington Commanders have been in the news for all sorts of wrong reasons over the past few years. The pressure has been mounting on both the league as well as Daniel Snyder himself to let go of his beloved football team.

Over the past few months, the pressure from fellow team owners in the NFL has been increasing with the likes of Jim Irsay and Robert Kraft among others asking for Snyder to be kicked out of the Commanders publicly.

With all the pressure building, it is understood that Snyder has finally caved and is seriously considering selling his franchise. And in order to do so, he has enlisted the services of Bank Of America to help facilitate a sale. Daniel Snyder bought the Commanders in 1999 for a whopping $800 million. At the time, it was the largest sum paid for a sports team.

Fast forward 23 years and the team is now valued at $5.6 billion, which is what Snyder is seeking from any interested buyers. If he is able to get the value he is after, it will make the sale of the Commanders the most expensive sale of a sports team in the history of the world. This also means that the sale might take a lot of time as there are not many people in the world that can afford a football team that costs $5.6 billion.

Huge legal hurdle for Daniel Snyder ahead of his move to sell the Washington Commanders

Snyder’s proposed sale of the Commanders might have just suffered a huge blow after a recent report released by ESPN. Don Van Natta Jr. of ESPN.com reports that the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia has launched a criminal investigation regarding allegations that the team engaged in financial improprieties.

Commanders outside counsel John Brownlee issued a statement on behalf of the team saying, “It is not surprising that ESPN is publishing more falsehoods based solely on anonymous sources — given today’s announcement. We are confident that, after these agencies have had a chance to review the documents and complete their work, they will come to the same conclusion as the team’s internal review — that these allegations are simply untrue.”
