Daniel Jones Vs Dak Prescott: Giants QB Seems To Be Taking The Lead
A new countdown places Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott behind New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones.
Daniel Jones has had to deal with the criticism for his shortcomings ever since joining the NY Giants in the NFL.
Jones only has one victory over the Cowboys, but since making his 2019 debut, Jones has yet to triumph over Prescott while the Dallas starter. Some others question if Jones’ situation will ever alter when he starts for the Giants versus Prescott.
Dak Prescott, the quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, perhaps just received the spark he needed to get fired up before the 2023 season.

Chris Simms, a former NFL quarterback and current commentator for NBC, released his rating of the best signal callers. Thursday, Simms released 13-9 on his countdown of the 40 best quarterbacks in the sport. The most notable part was that Prescott checked in at No. 13, two spots below Daniel Jones of the New York Giants.

The goals for Jones have shifted, though, starting with the 2023 campaign. The Giants have made it quite apparent that Jones is their man moving forward with the new $160 million contract that was inked back in March, and he will surpass the expectations that the doubters originally had on him.
Prescott can’t keep up with Jones when rushing. Jones had a career high in 2022 with 120 carries for 708 yards and seven running touchdowns. Before 2022, Jones’ greatest season for running included 65 attempts for 423 yards and a score.

Despite being a mobile quarterback, Prescott hasn’t been a very efficient runner in his most recent seasons: in 2022, he had 45 carries for 182 yards and a score.
Prescott’s 2023 season, in which he was intercepted a career-high 15 times during the regular season, will be comparatively important. Since Brian Schottenheimer has replaced former offensive coordinator Kellen Moore as the play-caller for the Cowboys, head coach Mike McCarthy will do so.

Prescott’s 2023 performance may very well determine if McCarthy signs a new deal with the Cowboys for a fifth season and how the team will proceed with Prescott’s 2024 cap charge of $59.5 million.
Jones made great progress in 2022, as seen by the fact that he only had six fumbles, four of which were lost, and five interceptions.

Prescott, on the other hand, had four fumbles and three lost fumbles along with a league-high 15 interceptions. Prescott had 10 interceptions and 14 fumbles with seven losses the year prior.
Whatever they did with Jones, it was successful because the number of turnovers was significantly reduced and converted to running yards.

Meanwhile, Simms — whose father, of course, was a star quarterback for the Giants — had this to say of Jones.
“He made more with less as much as anybody in football,” Simms said. “Daniel Jones is in a small class of quarterbacks in the NFL where he can throw over the line of scrimmage. It keeps a variety of throws still available to him that are not available to most quarterbacks. It’s a short list – him, Justin Herbert, Trevor Lawrence, (Tom) Brady could kind of do that. It’s that kind of guy.
He’s a high-level thrower of the football. Incredible control and accuracy. (The Giants) could not have won and played the way they did without Daniel Jones’ skillset last year. His running is in the upper echelon of runners in football. He’s right there with Josh Allen…He rarely put the team in bad situations. His ability to read coverages, like Kirk Cousins, is high-level.”

The Giants have given Jones their full support as the offensive coordinator. Joe Schoen has also given Jones some good tools to work with in 2023 thanks to Daboll’s teaching.
Jones will finally have the legitimate No. 1 threat he has been seeking since his 2019 arrival, and Jalin Hyatt might be the first 1,000-yard receiver since Odell Beckham Jr. departed the area after 2018.
It’s wild how every year of Dak Prescott’s career he’s held to the standard of the absolute best while putting up top QB numbers, yet is considered by most fans an average QB pic.twitter.com/k5bHn3iBVQ

If all of the Giants’ offensive options are healthy, the current offense may very well be the finest one Jones has ever had to manage. After tearing his ACL a year ago, Sterling Shepard appears to be in good shape. If so, he has always been a dependable choice to make difficult receptions. Wan’Dale Robinson began to realize his groove before he was lost for the 2022 season. Parris Campbell is looking to show he can be impactful after a career marred with injuries with the Indianapolis Colts.
Given the environment Schoen and Daboll have created for Jones, who only threw for 23 touchdowns in 2022, if Prescott is trending in the wrong direction due to aging and fumbles, Jones should outperform him in terms of offensive productivity in 2023.

Simms was mostly complimentary of Prescott, but he did provide some helpful critique after considering the 29-year-old’s performance from the previous campaign.
“He is good at everything but not elite at anything,” Simms said. “More missed throws this past year than ever before. He played not his best football in some of the biggest moments. The Buccaneers playoff game was good, but the 49ers playoff game was horrible. That’s where Dak Prescott fell off just a little bit this year. They’re paying him like a superstar, and he has not come through in some of the superstar moments.

“A positive is that he’s a tremendous leader for their franchise. He’s one of the better leaders in football. His arm is good but it’s not in the upper crust of the NFL, same with his athleticism and his variety of releases. He’s a polarizing player and he gets more hate than he should, and I think that can lead to analysts giving him more love to squash that, but the truth is somewhere in between that.”
How Kirk Cousins and Daniel Jones are in this conversation over Dak Prescott is beyond belief. https://t.co/lAaqwn5STD
