Daniel Cormier Plots Conor McGregor’s UFC Return Fight Options: “I Think He Should Fight…”

Former UFC two-division champion Daniel Cormier weighed in on what’s next for UFC megastar Conor McGregor upon his return. The Irishman hasn’t competed since UFC 264 when he snapped his leg in his trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier.

Now that McGregor has been training extensively and is truly on the road to recovery, Cormier listed off two opponents who make sense for the Irishman. Per ‘DC’, McGregor should ideally face rival Nate Diaz and wrap up their trilogy fight.

McGregor vs Diaz 3 will be a massive showcase considering that both men have won one fight apiece. Moreover, the fight is sure to be a box office success and will rake in a lucrative PPV buy rate once it is all said and done.

What lies ahead for Conor McGregor upon his return

“Well, I’ve got two names. I know who he should fight, and I know who he probably will fight. “Who he should fight is Nate Diaz. They should complete this trilogy. It’s a massive fight. Both guys are not necessarily in the title picture right now.”

“It’s a fun fight. We’ve seen it twice and both of them have delivered. I think it’s evenly matched, so I think he should fight Nate Diaz.”

While Cormier was a proponent for McGregor to face Diaz to wrap up the trilogy, he was rather unsure whether that was the fight that would truly materialize. In fact, Daniel Cormier posited that a fight between Michael Chandler and Conor McGregor is a more likely booking.

Who I believe he will fight is Michael Chandler because Michael Chandler has taken the UFC by storm.”

“This guy only had four fights (in the UFC so far). He has now had the greatest front-kick knockout of all time, he has knocked out Dan Hooker, fought for the championship, fought in a Fight of the Year fight against Justin Gaethje – so his resume is strong, his profile is strong and every single time he wins a fight, he jumps on that microphone and he makes a statement. And in his last fight, he made a statement that he’s ready to fight Conor McGregor.” [h/t mmajunkie.com]

Both McGregor and Chandler have been outspoken about facing each other and they certainly bring intensity and action to their exchanges. It’s almost a foregone conclusion that one of these men will be out cold on the canvas before the final bell rings.
