Damon Stoudamire Thought Wrapping Weed In Aluminium Foil Will Help Him Fool The Airport Security
After reportedly attempting to go through an airport metal detector with over 1 1/2 ounces of marijuana wrapped in aluminium foil, Damon Stoudamire was taken into custody on suspicion of marijuana offences.

According to authorities on Monday, the Portland Trail Blazer guard was detained at the Tucson airport on Thursday as he got ready to catch a trip to New Orleans.
Stoudamire was immediately suspended by the team and fined $250,000.

He was charged with two misdemeanours: possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. According to the police, he had over 40 grams of marijuana on him.
Police found a pound of marijuana in Stoudamire’s home when responding to a 2001 burglar alarm, so it wasn’t the first time he’d been busted for marijuana usage (he was released after a court determined the drug discovery was the consequence of an unlawful search).
But that wasn’t the last time either, as what happened in 2003 brought him into the news once more—this time for all the wrong reasons.

In the early 2000s, as you probably already know, the TSA was on high alert for suspicious passengers and parcels, so if you made the poor decision to carry anything through security that you weren’t authorized to have, you wanted to make sure you didn’t raise any red flags.
Unfortunately, on his voyage from Arizona to New Orleans in the summer of 2003, Stoudamire essentially did everything within his ability to guarantee that he would be apprehended.
Like many NBA players, Damon Stoudamire had no idea what to do when he retired, so he volunteered as an assistant coach at Rice University
Fast forward 15 years, and he's now the new head coach at Georgia Tech

We’ve demonstrated that Stoudamire wasn’t exactly a master criminal when you take into account that this was the third occasion in less than two years that he had been charged with possession.
But this arrest was especially noteworthy when you consider that the fact that he had wrapped the illegal substance in aluminum foil before passing through the metal detector that was set off as a consequence alerted TSA investigators to its presence.

When Stoudamire put the marijuana in a security container with some rolling papers and the police were contacted, the Trail Blazers did not waste any time in suspending him for three months and fineing him $250,000.
After playing his final NBA season with the Spurs, the guard eventually took his skills to Memphis in 2005. He retired from the NBA in 2008. He then focused on teaching and is presently Georgia Tech’s men’s basketball team captain.
