Dallas Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones’ Blind Referee Costume Might End up Costing Him a Fortune in Fines

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones left fans in splits after dressing up as a blind referee for Halloween this year. Jones has had a long-standing love-hate relationship with league officials and has, on more than one occasion, been vocal about his disdain towards them. His most recent outfit is yet another such statement.

When asked about his outfit, Jones said, “Oh, yeah, I had the cane and everything, and I used it on some people, too!’.” While the outfit was definitely witty and amused both fans as well has his friends Jones might have to pay a price for this.

The league sent a memo to coaches, general managers, team presidents, and chief executives in October 2019 stating that it prohibits the following types of criticism towards officials.

The statement said, “Comments regarding the quality of officiating, individual calls or missed calls, the League’s officiating department, an officiating crew, or an individual game official; [a]ccusing game officials of acting with bias or in any way questioning the integrity of NFL game officials; or [p]osting negative or derogatory/demeaning content pertaining to officiating on social media.”

While at this point in time the league has issued no such warnings to Jerry Jones or the Cowboys, his son Stephen Jones is hopeful that the league has a sense of humor. “I do think they understand you can have some humor with this stuff, but I can’t imagine they don’t think there’s nothing but respect that comes out of the Cowboys organization in terms of how difficult their job is and what a good job they do, as well” he said.

The Cowboys season got off to a tough start after an opening day loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and shortly after losing quarterback Dak Prescott to a finger injury.

However, eight games into the season and the Cowboys have an impressive record of 6-2 with the other losses being at the hands of the mighty Philadelphia Eagles. The Dallas Cowboys will be in action next week as they take on Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers.
