Cristiano Ronaldo Says He Didn’t Talk Tom Brady Out Of Retirement, Only Good Energies Exchanged

Tom Brady made a dramatic U-turn on his decision to retire earlier this year, and Cristiano Ronaldo has reflected on the conversation they shared in an interview with Piers Morgan.

Cristiano Ronaldo Says He Didn’t Talk Tom Brady Out Of Retirement

Contrary to widespread rumours, Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo was not the factor in Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady’s decision to come out of retirement.

Ronaldo chatted with Brady on the field at Old Trafford in the UK on March 12 after Manchester United defeated Tottenham, the day before Brady announced his return to Tampa for a 23rd NFL season.

At the time, rumours circulated on Twitter that Ronaldo had persuaded Brady to come out of retirement. One user even claimed that the “Cristiano effect” had contributed to the quarterback’s choice.

When asked about the timing of the exchange in an interview with Piers Morgan that aired on Thursday, Ronaldo responded that their conversation was unrelated to Brady’s decision to come out of retirement.

“Psychology, see. I’m a good psychologist,” Ronaldo joked. “I think he had taken the decision a few weeks before that. He’s a very smart guy who knows a lot about football [soccer], and we had a nice conversation. I don’t think that had anything to do with it, though.”

“We had a nice conversation. He gave me good energy. When you have another GOAT, it’s energy. It’s all about energy. When you have good energy around you, I can do interesting things.”

In a viral clip taken on the pitch, Ronaldo can be heard asking Brady, “You’re finished [playing], right?”

Brady’s remark is not heard in the video, so it is unclear what he said. The seven-time Super Bowl champion is pictured smiling and squinting while keeping his hands in his pockets.

On March 13, the day Brady announced his return for a 23rd season, Ronaldo took to Instagram to share a photo of the pair at Old Trafford.

“Always a pleasure and a privilege to share some thoughts and ideas with another GOAT…👏🏽👊🏽 ,” Ronaldo wrote in his caption.
