Could Sean Casey as Hitting Coach With No Coaching Experience Help Yankees ?

Reports are saying that Sean Casey could be the New York Yankees new hitting coach for the rest of the season.

It is said that Casey will be the coach for so he can see if he really likes the coaching position. Casey has been working for the MLB as an analyst until now.

The Yankees are already looking for new recruitments just one day after Dillion Lawson was fired. Lawson took over the role as hitting coach in the 2021 season, was fired after the 7-4 lose to the Chicago Cubs on Sunday.

Why the Yankees fired Lawson

Lawson was fired because he there was no more time to prove that he could change Yankees offense that thats has some underperforming players. After their lose on Sunday to the Cubs it fi shed the first half of the season. That was the Yankees last straw. This is the first time the Yankees have fired someone in the middle of the season since 1995.

New York has been very underperforming this whole season especially the Yankees. New York’s batting average is .231. They are 28th out of the major league team. The Yankees rank 18th place with only 400 runs total. That is the worst total for the American League East.

Why are the Yankees choosing Sean Casey

Brain Cashmere who is the general manager of the Yankees said that the Yankees would be bringing someone that is close to the Yankees manager Aaron Boone. Lawson and Boone were teammates from 1998 to 2003 when they both played for the Cincinnati Reds. Hiring Casey would be a total 360 from what Lawson brought to the Yankees.

Casey is a former MLB player with zero experience, as well as an analyst for the MLB. Lawson didn’t have experience playing in the major league and was only analytical. Casey is a very successful batting career. He is a .302 hitter and has made the ball go to the entire field, which is something the Yankees haven’t been able to do. If the Yankees do hire him it will be interesting to see the difference between him and Lawson.

With Casey coming to the Yankees it’s a sign that they want to actually be able to get to their players and actually connect with them especially the veterans. There is no doubt that Lawson is a hard working and talented hitting coach. But Casey is someone who represents the players the players and knows what they are going through. Boone will also probably take Caseys advice on other parts of the game and team as well because Casey is very analytical.
