However, things could have been far worse. The Buffaloes battled back despite the injuries and a wave of flu-like symptoms until Utah (8-4) grabbed control with 7:25 remaining in the game and used the last 12 plays to run out the time.
Sanders reiterated his forecast of greater things for the Buffs in Year Two of the next season after Colorado’s sixth defeat was decided by seven points or less.
💯 @DeionSanders is spot on. This team gave the Boulder faithful hope for our football when we had none. The trend is up. 📈 Proud of this team for their "NEVER GIVE IN" energy and excited for what comes next! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 #skobuffs🦬 pic.twitter.com/WR63nTJHSR

Even though the season ended on a far less happy tone than it started, Sanders was able to turn the show around and give it a lot of momentum.
With a focus on the future, Sanders and company have certain objectives for the offseason. The head coach of the Buffaloes described the necessity to search the transfer portal and asked for assistance in generating the money required to compete at the top level.
How you know he's a real one: @DeionSanders stopped in the middle of his press conference to ask how the @CUBuffsWBB team did today and to give @CoachJRPayne her flowers. CU women had a rough one today, but they're making waves 🏀🦬#cubuffs #gobuffs #9sports pic.twitter.com/rz49qNQLSk

“We definitely need ‘giving.’ You know what I mean,” Sanders said after the game. “It’s unfortunate to say this, but some kids cost… We can sit here and talk about great coaching and great this and great that all we want. But it’s going to be a credit card swipe with all these guys going to these playoffs. I understand that.”
Sanders said, without providing any details, that he anticipated “a few” changes to his team prior to the upcoming year.

“I love everything that transpired,” Sanders said of his first season in Boulder. “I could not grow if I didn’t go through what we’ve gone through. I could not prosper if I did not glean from what transpired this season. I could not be who I am if I did not have these tasks at hand. I’m truly thankful. This is not the first challenge I’ve had in my life, but I know how I finish. I know how this is gonna end. I promise you. I know how this is gonna end.”
The 2023 Buffaloes were a significantly different club from the 2022 squad, and Colorado was quite busy in this area last year as a result of Sanders bringing along multiple players, including his son Shedeur Sanders and 2022 No. 1 prospect Travis Hunter.

Still, the team’s 1-8 Pac-12 record and failure to go to the bowl were undoubtedly caused by roster gaps.
In 2024, Colorado will rejoin the Big-12 and will be hoping to make the required adjustments to get back to a bowl game for the first time since the 2020 season was cut short by the Covid pandemic.
