Colorado Coach Deion Sanders Addresses Rumors Of Him Joining NFL

Although Deion Sanders’s first season at Colorado has been uneventful, with three games remaining, the Hall of Fame player-turned-coach has already led the Buffaloes to four wins this season, matching their best season since 2020. Fans have questioned what it would take for head coach Sanders to make the transition to the NFL, despite the fact that this is only his first season.

Sanders stated that he does not see himself taking over as head coach of an NFL team during an appearance on The Dan Patrick Show.

Many wonder if Sanders, with his NFL Hall of Fame background, could succeed in the professional ranks.

“No. No. Not whatsoever,” he said. “I don’t think I’m built for the NFL. I appreciate the game so much and I respect the game so much and what the game has consistently done for me for a multitude of years. When I see a guy getting paid millions and millions and millions of dollars and he has no respect for the game and does not want to excel and exceed expectations in the game, I’m going to have a true problem. I’m the kind of coach who would go out there with 53 [players] and come back after halftime with about 32. I can’t do it. I’m too brutally honest and I want to win that much.”

When Patrick questioned Sanders about whether he would want to coach his kids, Shedeur and Shilo, if they were on the same professional team, Sanders skillfully sidestepped the topic.

Sanders states that he anticipates having his two boys in the program for an additional year: defensive back Shilo Sanders and quarterback Shedeur Sanders. After his children have gone on from Boulder, Colorado, the older Sanders’ views on coaching in the NFL may yet alter, but for the time being, he is not concerned about it.

“I don’t know. I don’t know. I’m trying to win a game. I haven’t thought about it. I’m trying to win a game. I’m not thinking down the street that far.”

Over the past three weeks, the Colorado Buffaloes have suffered some heartbreaking defeats. They blew a 29-point halftime lead against the Stanford Cardinal in their Week 7 defeat.

Again, Coach Prime’s Buffaloes were disappointed going into their Week 8 battle against the UCLA Bruins. QB Shedeur Sanders was sacked seven times by the offensive line, which was blamed for the defeat. The Buffaloes ended their three-game losing run in Week 9 with yet another loss.
