Week 1 Scores
College football’s biggest teams get their 2022 seasons underway on Saturday. Week 1 action of college football concludes Monday when No. 4 Clemson takes on Georgia Tech in Atlanta. Saturday’s lineup was stacked with the top 25 teams. Notable games included No. 2 Ohio State’s win over No. 5 Notre Dame and Florida’s upset over No. 7 Utah. On Friday, No. 15 Michigan State defeated Western Michigan.
Alabama, No. 1, 55, Utah State, 0
Briefly Starting out strong, the top-ranked Crimson Tide outgained the Aggies 559-136. Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young led Alabama, which scored on each of its seven first-half possessions en route to a 41-0 halftime lead, with 195 passing yards and two touchdowns.
Alabama will visit Texas the following week. To play Weber State, Utah State returns home.
No. 5 Notre Dame 10, No. 2 Ohio State 21,
Briefly: Despite being a 17-point favourite, C.J. Stroud led the Buckeyes’ comeback triumph after they were down at the half. Late in the third quarter, the sophomore quarterback connected with Xavier Johnson for the game-winning touchdown, and he performed admirably without star receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who was injured. The Irish played the game hard, after a 10-7 lead at the break. They lacked enough offence to threaten Ohio State’s defence in the second half.

No. 12 Oregon 3, No. 3 Georgia 49
In a nutshell: On Saturday, the defending champions made a statement by thrashing Oregon. Stetson Bennett completed 25 of his 31 passes for 368 yards and two touchdowns, and his team scored scores on each of their first seven possessions. Bo Nix, who threw two interceptions, was continually bothered by the strong defense throughout the day.
One noteworthy event is when Malaki Starks picks off Nix with an athletic play.

The Bulldogs’ next match is against FCS opponent Samford on Saturday. Eastern Washington is entertained by The Ducks.

Michigan No. 6 51, Colorado State No. 7
In a nutshell: In both teams’ season opener at the Big House, Cade McNamara passed for 136 yards and a touchdown, while Blake Corum added 76 yards and a score on the ground for the Wolverines. The Rams’ total offence was only 219 yards.
One noteworthy moment is when Corum vaults over a defender.
Make a reading: Michigan got off to a rout in the opening game.
The next week, Michigan will play Hawaii at home, while Colorado State will host Middle Tennessee.

No. 7 Texas A&M defeated Sam Houston State, 31–0.
In a nutshell: The Aggies continued to play despite a nearly three-hour weather delay as Haynes King passed for 364 yards and three touchdowns. In addition, Ananias Smith contributed six receptions for 164 yards and two scores.
One noteworthy play: Watch Smith score one of his three receiving touchdowns while leaving defenders in the dust.
The Aggies’ next game is against Appalachian State on Saturday. Northern Arizona plays Sam Houston State.

No. 8 Utah (26), Florida (29).
Briefly: With 17 seconds remaining, Amari Burney picked off Utes quarterback Cam Rising in the end zone to give Billy Napier his first victory as Gators coach. With 1:25 left, Florida has taken the lead thanks to quarterback Anthony Richardson’s third touchdown run. Utah had advanced to the Gators’ 6-yard line and was in position to win when Rising pushed a ball into coverage.
One noteworthy event is Burney’s game-winning play.
Utah will then play Southern Utah at home. Kentucky will visit Florida.

No. 9 Texas-El Paso 13, Oklahoma 45
Briefly: The Brent Venables era got off to a spectacular start as Oklahoma crushed UTEP behind transfer quarterback Dillon Gabriel’s 233 passing yards and three total touchdowns. Despite only having the ball for 21 minutes, the Sooners racked up 492 yards.
One noteworthy play is when Marcus Major, an Oklahoma running back, charges in from a yard away.

10 Baylor 69, 10 Albany
Briefly In their opening game, the Bears defeated their FCS foe with ease. Two touchdowns and 214 yards were thrown for by Blake Shapen. After Baylor led 35-7 at the half, Richard Reese scored two more points on the ground, and the outcome was never in doubt.
Baylor will next travel to face Brigham Young. Visiting New Hampshire is Albany.
