Coco Gauff is excited to spot her younger self in a Venus Williams match.

Thanks to a kind fan who uncovered a treasured memory from her background, reigning US Open winner Coco Gauff recently enjoyed a sentimental trip down memory lane. Gauff joyfully recalled about seeing tennis legend Venus Williams play Bethanie Mattek-Sands at the 2012 US Open competition by posting a picture on her official Instagram story.

A little Gauff was seen in the touching photo taken in the mood of Williams’ first-round encounter while watching the game. She had no idea that seven years later she would be competing against her hero on the court and that eleven years later she would win the coveted tournament for herself.

Gauff reposted the photo on her Instagram story, expressing her sincere gratitude and happiness at the finding.

“Wowwwwwww no way someone found this,” Gauff said.

“THAT IS ME WATCHING VENUS at Us open. didn’t even know the tv caught me in the stands. whoever found this shoutout to you omg. THIS IS CRAZY. time flies. lol I def was looking at the jumbotron to see if the camera was showing me lol. Thank you for sharing!”

Gauff has long acknowledged that Williams is her inspiration, both on and off the court, so it’s no secret that she admires the player. After her historic Wimbledon 2019 triumph over Williams, Gauff was open about the knowledge and skills she acquired from the great WTA player.

“She [Venus] taught me the importance of humility, and the importance of enjoying life outside of tennis, and also the importance of letting your emotions out on the court,” Gauff said.
