Coaches being watched in college football: hot seats

A compilation list of college football coaches who would be under pressure to succeed before the 2021 season was published by different websites. They varied from Jim Harbaugh at Michigan winning the Big Ten title and making it to the College Football Playoff to being dismissed after only two games (Clay Helton at USC). We would like to discuss our preseason Hot Seat list below; four remain the same, with Mr Harbaugh being the sole remaining coach to play his way off the list.

Arizona State’s Herm Edwards

Program status: Edwards has a respectable won-loss record (25-18, no losing games in four years), but a 14-month NCAA examination has lost him his offensive and defensive coordinators, in addition to nine impact players who left after the team’s 8-5 record the previous year. It was an unusual hire that once seemed hopeful, but things now seem to be going wrong on several fronts.

Season-opening match: Thursday, September 1 vs. Northern Arizona.

Miami transfer If Emory Jones wins the starting quarterback position, this will be a wonderful warm-up spot for him. Although it lost to Arizona 21-19, Northern Arizona’s 2017 campaign saw them go 5-6 overall and 4-4 in the Big Sky.

How the position can cool: Arizona State surprises Oklahoma State in Week 2 and finishes at least.500 in the Pac-12, along with an NCAA finding that Edwards was not responsible for the purported recruiting infractions.

If the NCAA imposes stiff consequences and Arizona State fails to make discernible improvements on the field, a new coach will be in charge.

Auburn’s Bryan Harsin

Program status: It’s amazing to consider what life was like on the Plains. In the last seconds against Alabama, Tank Bigsby was able to stay in boundaries, and the Tigers prevented what would have been a stunning upset. But because he and they failed to do so, the management looked into Harsin’s initiative at the request of some powerful supporters, causing him to undergo an unpleasant spring. With problems at quarterback and poor recruitment rankings for the class of 2023 as a result of the internal strife at Auburn, Harsin kept his job and now enters Year 2 following a 6-7 record in 2021.

Seasonal opener: Saturday, September 3 vs Mercer.

In addition to playing Mercer as their first opposition, the Tigers get to start the season at home against undefeated opposition for five consecutive matches. This is just what the doctor prescribed for a squad and coach who are anxious to start the game quickly.

How to chill the seat: Since the AD who hired Harsin is in the last year of his contract, Harsin really needs to take an ice bath. It might work if you had a 10-2 record with your only defeats coming against Georgia and Alabama. However, that’s a lot to ask of a squad whose offence has a lot of unanswered questions.

If: The tether is likely to be short, whether fair or unfair, a new coach will be hired. Some people will howl if Penn State loses at home in Week 3. By the middle of October, Auburn might take the plunge if losses to LSU and Georgia follow.

Miami University’s Mike Norvell

Program status: Ever since Jimbo Fisher put one foot out the door in 2017, Florida State has been on the decline. Veteran football fans are finding it difficult to understand the situation in Tallahassee after four consecutive losing seasons—two under Willie Taggart and two under Norvell. This year, the Seminoles are predicted to be no better than an average ACC squad.

Seasonal debut: on Saturday, August 27 vs Duquense

The Seminoles could benefit from a Week Zero warm-up versus LSU before their stand-alone matchup on Labor Day weekend. You won’t be able to learn very much from this game. In their lone encounter with an FBS team, TCU, the Dukes finished 7-3 last season out of the FCS Northeast Conference.

How to keep the seat cool: Win Game 2 vs LSU. A program in need of momentum would benefit greatly from a significant win in the national limelight. Deion Sanders would be linked to FSU even more if Jackson State lost and Deion Sanders triumphed on national television in the days leading up to the game. The next time Florida State plays a ranked opponent is in October, when they are a 3-point underdog.

If: LSU wins easily and the squad struggles against the more prestigious opponents on its schedule (N.C. State, Clemson, Miami, Florida), a new coach will be in charge. At 6-6, a bowl invitation probably won’t be enough.

Blustein

Nebraskan Scott Frost

Program’s current state: The team has been in its worse situation since the late 1950s from a won-lost standpoint. For those who have witnessed decades of supremacy, the Huskers have experienced five consecutive disappointing seasons, including four under Frost. But how far is Nebraska from here? It lost to Michigan and Michigan State by a field goal, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Oklahoma by a touchdown, and Ohio State after a 55-minute match.

Season-opening match: on Saturday, August 27, against Northwestern in Dublin, Ireland.

In its lone Big Ten victory from last season, Nebraska thrashed Northwestern 56-7. Nebraska gained 657 yards, led Northwestern 35-7 at the half, and never let the Wildcats get back into the game. Ordinarily, a match involving two Big Ten schools with three wins would be overlooked, but because it is a Week Zero game, Fox will draw more attention to it. Upon entry, Nebraska is a 12-point favourite.

A bowl game will do it, which is how the seat can cool. When talking about the Frost era, progress will eventually be demonstrated if Nebraska increases its victory total from three to six and begins to win some of these close games. In the first nine games, just one legit contender is present (Oklahoma). Frost can save himself.

If Casey Thompson doesn’t prove to be the quarterback of the future and the Huskers keep losing close games, college football will bring a new coach will be in charge. In Dublin, a mistake would almost likely spell disaster.
