Coach Landi helps Simone Biles heal from 2023 Worlds trauma with thoughtful approach to mental health

Even though she is the US gymnastics champion, Simone Biles has had a difficult journey to stardom. Biles took time off from her career to heal after experiencing serious consequences related to her mental health issues in Tokyo. It did appear that things had returned to normal after her return. Unfortunately, when Biles tried to push herself too far, the demons from her past threatened to resurface. A competitor at the 2023 World Championships in Antwerp, Simone Biles took an unanticipated fall.

Biles leaped and fell on the floor as she ran in for a dance pass on the floor exercise. Immediately after, embarrassed that she couldn’t execute a perfect landing, Biles stood up and grinned. Sadly, by then the harm had already been done. But looking back on the memories, a thoughtful Cecile Landi described how she assisted Simone Biles in overcoming her shock.

In later rounds, Simone Biles—the legend that she is—managed to overshadow her error. After putting on an incredible display, Biles recovered well to win her sixth all-around victory. One discreetly grinned while Biles reveled in the limelight. Without Cecile Landi, Biles’ coach, the turnaround would not have been conceivable.

Resuming a prior conversation with GymCastic, Landi described in detail the exact approach she took in response to Biles’s first setback.

Landi declared her pride in Biles’s antics on the mat to be quite high. And after the fall, Landi said, “It was okay,” when she returned. She continued by saying that Biles was surprised by what she had said. However, Landi was fully aware of her actions. Landi said, “I said you have enough skills don’t worry lower sty value but you should be fine,” after giving her comments some thought.

Biles was inspired to improve and share a positive memory with her coach as a result of her kind act. Of course she did. In 2024, Biles similarly took his time getting back into the game. At the 2024 Core Hydration Classics, Simone Biles made a thunderous return following time spent with her husband Jonathan Owens. As a strong proponent of mental wellness, Biles felt that taking time off the mats was essential.

Simone Biles promotes mental

Following her depressing trip to Tokyo, she talked candidly about “twisties.” She claims that in such situations, the mind is unable to comprehend the presence of land and space. Biles had a great deal of difficulty as a result while flying. But as soon as the 27-year-old was out of the mess, she started preaching about how important it is to be in a healthy mental state.

In reference to the same, Biles said, We have to protect our body and our mind … It just sucks when you’re fighting with your own head. Whenever you get in a high-stress situation, you kind of freak out. I have to focus on my mental health and not jeopardize my health and well-being.”

Biles has undoubtedly supported her remarks. Following her lengthy break, Biles demonstrated the Core Hydration Classics to her pupils. With a score of 59.500, Simone Biles dominated every routine. Because Biles’ score was nearly two points higher than Shilese Jones’ in second place, this was a spectacular debut. Therefore, even though Biles’ situation appears to be excellent, it is still unclear how well the American gymnastics champion did at the Olympics.
