‘Clean Up Your Act and Go Fight Some People’- Tony Ferguson Refutes Recent Claims Made By Gregor Gillespie
UFC lightweight Tony Ferguson has appeared in an uncharacteristic number of interviews following his KO loss to Michael Chandler and he’s aimed to provide some clarity on his performance. Despite starting off strong, Tony Ferguson was brutally finished in the second round and is now riding a four-fight losing streak.
‘El Cucuy’ will have to pick his next move extremely carefully, as it may be the most make-or-break decision of his illustrious UFC career.
One fighter who claimed to have angled for a fight against Tony Ferguson is collegiate wrestling phenom, Gregor Gillespie. Recently, Gregor ‘The Gift’ made a claim that Ferguson, turned down a fight against him and these claims are unfounded, per Tony Ferguson.
“I’d never heard about him… I was never offered a fight by the UFC with him [Gillespie]. I never heard anything, my lawyers (and) my agents never heard anything,” said Ferguson. “I want to be real, that dude is some kind of work man. I sent him a message… the story is, he don’t change his knee pads, I guess, or something like that. He’s a stinky guy.”
The former interim lightweight champion further went on to say that Gregor Gillespie needed to clean up his act and not claim to ride on the cache of a fighter of the stature of Conor McGregor. Ferguson is keen that Gregor Gillespie looks to fight some other top names before putting him on blast.
I am patiently waiting for a fight that will get me closer to a title. Since @TonyFergusonXT turned me down 100x last year, and @MikeChandlerMMA didn’t seem interested, and since RDA just turned down a fight against me (WHICH I ACCEPTED), I guess @beneildariush will have to do.

“I don’t wanna fight a stinky guy. Clean up your act and go fight some people. You can’t talk your way into the title, you’re not Conor (McGregor). Conor’s got value, he brings something to the table. He breaks records with the gate and everything. So do I.”
“If you’re just sitting there bitching all the time and not doing any work, or there for the company, you can’t expect to talk yourself into a title fight, I’m gonna be real… I recommend to him (Gillespie), get in there and fight some mothers*ckers,” Ferguson said. [h/t bjpenn.com]
Tony Ferguson walked through the fire during his rise to the top and it’s no surprise that he wants the new age lightweight contenders to do the same. Moreover, Ferguson holds a win over the only man to knockout Gregor Gillespie in Kevin Lee and that surely adds to his confidence about a potential scrap between the two.
