Chris Paul, Who Once Shelled Out $25,000 For Blasting Female Referee, Enters Insane John Stockton Territory in Game 3

The Phoenix Suns defeated the Los Angeles Clippers 112-95 on Sunday night thanks to Devin Booker’s 35 points. The Suns wasted little time in getting the rout underway. They jumped off to an early 11-0 lead and maintained that lead into halftime and the third. Chris Paul recorded seven points, eleven assists, and eight rebounds for the game.

After winning their first two games on the road, the Clippers opened their home season with a 22-point performance from Marcus Morris, 17 from John Wall, and 16 from Paul George. In his second game of the year, Kawhi Leonard came off the bench and finished with 11 points and 6 rebounds in 21 minutes.

Chris Paul becomes only third player to record 11,000 assists

Chris Paul, the point guard for the Phoenix Suns, added a new achievement to his Hall of Fame résumé on Sunday night during the Los Angeles Clippers game. Only a few minutes into the game, CP3 sent the ball off to Deandre Ayton for a slam and the 11,000th assist of his historic career. He passed 11,000 assists to become the third player in NBA history as his parents, wife, children, and brother watched on.

Paul is one of just two players in NBA history with so many assists, along with John Stockton and Jason Kidd. Paul also set a league record by being the first player to reach 20,000 points and 11,000 assists. Kidd, who is currently the coach of the Dallas Mavericks, has 12,091 assists to Stockton’s 15,806 assists.

Chris Paul’s criticism of a female referee in 2015

During his stint with the Clippers, after public criticism of female referee Lauren Holtkamp following a defeat against Cleveland, Chris Paul was fined $25,000 by the NBA. Paul was upset when Holtkamp gave him a technical foul that he called “ridiculous.”

“There’s no way that can be a technical. We try to get the ball out quick every time down the court and when we did that she said ‘Uh-uh’ and I said ‘Why uh-uh?’ and she gave me a tech. That’s ridiculous. If that’s the case, then this might not be for her,” Paul said.

Paul subsequently clarified that his comments were not directed against one of the two women referees in the league, but rather displeasure over a poor call that occurred shortly after his team lost 105-94.
