Chiefs Willie Gay Takes A Dig At Cam Newton On His Comeback News

Cam Newton regained national stardom on Thursday. On Robert Griffin III’s RG3 and the Ones podcast, he was asked if he would return to the NFL with the New York Jets, who have been struggling since Aaron Rodgers’ Achilles tear.

Chiefs Willie Gay Takes A Dig At Cam Newton On His Comeback News

Willie Gay Jr., a fourth-year linebacker for the Kansas City Chiefs, is skeptical of free agency quarterback Cam Newton’s recent statements about his probable return to the NFL.

“You not about to sit here and penny pinch me, bro. I’m about to sit up here and sign no $5.5 (million) deal, bro. Those days are over with. I’d be wasting my time. Because I will tell you if you don’t think I could be on a roster right now, I could. But it’s bigger than that to me. Am I in shape right now? Hell yeah.”

Willie Gay Jr., a Kansas City Chiefs linebacker, indicated on Instagram that the 2011 first-round selection will still take an offer:

“That mane would be on the first flight out to NY,” Gay Jr. said.

Newton, who last played for the Carolina Panthers in 2021, also stated that he would like to know if the Jets informed current starting quarterback Zach Wilson that he was being signed, as well as his standing with the organization if Aaron Rodgers returns this season.

At this point, it’s unclear where Cam Newton is getting the idea that he’d be at the top of the Jets’ list if they entered the quarterback market. Following Aaron Rodgers’ Achilles rupture, backup Zach Wilson struggled in his first two starts before returning with a great showing against Willie Gay’s Chiefs.

Cam Newton, the former Carolina Panthers quarterback, had a phenomenal career in the NFL that lasted more than a decade. However, the former MVP last played in the NFL in the 2021 season and has not been able to sign with a team since.

Newton has made many efforts to return to the league. He has even stated that he is willing to back up certain quarterbacks in the NFL, but none of his attempts have been successful.
