Chiefs TE Travis Kelce Is Already Planning Retirement, Performance Not Upto The Mark

Taylor Swift is unrelated to Travis Kelce’s potential readiness to settle down at last.

In a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, the All-Pro tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, who is currently in his 11th season in the NFL, said he thinks about retiring “more than anyone could ever imagine”.

The 34-year-old Kelce has only missed four of his 155 regular-season games since he started starting in 2014. He has also participated in 18 more postseason games, which is essentially one extra season overall, during that time. But he’s had over a dozen operations in spite of his endurance.

With 303 yards in back-to-back games in October, Kelce demonstrated that he is still a top weapon for Patrick Mahomes, but he hasn’t been his usual game-changing self this season.

The Grammy winner missed Monday’s 21-17 loss to the Eagles due to her “Eras Tour” concert in Brazil, which caused Taylor Swift’s boyfriend, who previously told WSJ Magazine that he considers retiring “more than anyone could ever imagine,” to have a difficult night.

With a routine seven catches for 44 yards and one score, Kelce did not have much of an impact on the game. He also committed a costly fumble inside the red zone and another simple throw late in the fourth quarter.

In his previous three games, the 34-year-old has not exceeded 58 yards, and in seven of his nine outings, he has not cleared 70 receiving yards.

Taking pleasure in his availability to teammates, Kelce remarked, “That’s the only thing I’ve never really been open about.” “The pain. The lingering injuries – the 10 surgeries I’ve had that I still feel every single surgery to this day.”

Over his previous three games, he has accumulated 16 receptions for 116 yards and one touchdown, including a three-catch, 14-yard showing against Miami before to the bye week.

Even though he scored on Monday, his greatest play of the game was probably when, with the Chiefs leading 17–14, he fumbled at the Eagles’ nine-yard line early in the fourth quarter.

He is now on pace to record his ninth straight 1,000-yard receiving season with 64 receptions for 641 yards. In NFL history, no other tight end has more  than three in a row. For his career, Kelce owns 878 catches for 10,985 yards and 74 TDs, all near the top of the all-time tight end leaderboards. During postseason, Kelce has 133 grabs for 1,548 yards and 16 scores − all records at his position that trail only Hall of Fame wideout Jerry Rice overall.

“Until the wheels fall off, baby,” he said at the time. “I love this game, and I know I’m going to miss it when I’m done playing.

“But man, I’m in this building right now and I want to win football games.”
