Running back Ronald Jones of the Chiefs wants out!
Despite having a bye this week, the Kansas City Chiefs were still busy. They acquired wide receiver Kadarius Toney, from the New York Giants on Thursday before the Baltimore Ravens-Tampa Bay Buccaneers game in exchange for a third-round pick and a sixth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. This provides quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who was just selected last year, with an explosive weapon on a reasonably affordable contract.
Ronald Jones never got a real chance and now wants out before the trade deadline to go to a team that needs a RB. Do you blame him? @rojo

Running back Ronald Jones appeared to request a release from his contract with the Chiefs a day after the trade was announced. Running back Ronald Jones of the Chiefs wants out. Jones, who agreed to a one-year, $1.5 million deal with Kansas City this offseason but hasn’t worn a Chiefs uniform for a regular-season game yet, expressed his desire for the Chiefs to release him on Twitter.
Jones wrote, “Sure would like a RELEASE right about now.”

Given that Jones is locked behind Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Isiah Pacheco, and Jerick McKinnon on the depth chart and inactive every week, it’s no surprise that he wants out. It is unknown whether the Chiefs will agree to his request.
Jones, who was selected by the Buccaneers in the second round of the 2018 draft, spent four seasons there before moving to Kansas City this summer. In 2020, his greatest season, he rushed the ball 192 times for 978 yards.

He was listed as a healthy inactive for all seven of Kansas City’s regular-season games, but he hasn’t participated in a single one of them. If Jones truly intended this with this tweet, it remains to be seen if the Chiefs will comply. If that’s the case, it will be intriguing to see if teams are interested in signing him to bolster their rushing game. Jones has talent but will be rusty.
