Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes On Losing Orlando Brown Jr. To The Bengals: ‘Stinks for Us’
Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs was equally surprised by the signing of Orlando Brown Jr. by the Cincinnati Bengals.
Mahomes is still pleased that Brown found a place prepared to offer him the contract while competing at the top levels, even if he acknowledges it affects his Chiefs on the field and boosts one of their biggest competitors.
Following two seasons in Kansas City keeping Patrick Mahomes upright, the former Chiefs star will now guard Joe Burrow’s blindside.

Mahomes said, “Yeah, it’s hard. I continue to speak with Orlando. We shared a camaraderie that extended beyond the playing field. You are aware of his exceptional skill as a player. That hurts for us but I’m pleased for him that he went to a good spot where he was able to earn a decent contract that he deserved and stuff like that. He makes Cincinnati an even stronger football club.
Orlando Brown Jr. turned down a 6-year $139M deal with the Chiefs last offseason that would’ve made him the highest-paid LT in NFL history ($23M/year).
He just signed a 4-year contract worth $75M less with the Bengals ($16M/year).

“We’ll still have that friendship, but he’s a competitor like me, so we’re going to be wanting to be able to brag about who wins that football game.”

The signing not only strengthens the Bengals’ offensive line and improves protection for Joe Burrow’s blind side, but it also eliminates a significant portion of the Chiefs offensive line, which was exceptional during Kansas City’s Super Bowl victory the previous season.

Brown will now start in front of Joe Burrow on the left side, while Jonah Williams will move to the right. In order to make up for this, the Chiefs acquired free agent Jawaan Taylor, and they also intend to mix things up at the tackle positions with Donovan Smith.
