Only six seasons into his NFL career, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has already faced some of the best defensive players from the previous ten years.

Rarely, but occasionally, there are guys that can make the quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs struggle on the field. All three of the guys that made Patrick Mahomes wish he wasn’t facing them at some time in his career were on the Los Angeles Rams back in 2021.

The three toughest defenders Mahomes has faced since entering the NFL in 2017 were listed during a recent interview with Complex, and one of them was a former division foe he faced twice a year for his first three seasons.

It didn’t take Patrick long to compile a list of these players because they all needed to be defenders in order to be ranked. It’s significant that he addressed the first name right away, but he also paid homage to the other two since they’ve all caused him pain during games.

“(Rams defensive tackle) Aaron Donald is one; that’s out of the gate,” Mahomes said. “(Dolphins cornerback) Jalen Ramsey, especially the last few years, he’s always been a dog. And (Buffalo Bills linebacker) Von Miller — I’m glad he’s not in my division anymore.”

The 27-year-old signal caller faced a Denver Broncos defense spearheaded by Von Miller in his debut game as a starter. Miller rushed Mahomes four times, harried him three times, and hit him once, according to Pro Football Focus, even though he didn’t record a sack. Miller has a mere 1-4 record versus Mahomes despite recording 30 pressures, 22 hurries, four QB hits, and 3.5 sacks in five career contests.

Donald has tallied 14 pressures, 11 hurries, two sacks, and one quarterback hit on Mahomes in two career games against the Chiefs, including a 10-pressure, 8-hurry performance in Week 12 of the previous campaign.

Donald has twice faced Mahomes in his career. The second encounter occurred in a game last season, and despite playing both Donald and Ramsey, Mahomes guided the Chiefs to a 26-10 victory. Mahomes passed for 320 yards in the game, but he only completed one touchdown pass. Donald has lost twice against Mahomes, though.

Mahomes threw 10 of 18 throws for 182 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions in three games versus Ramsey, targeting Ramsey, who did have two forced incompletions and a pass breakup. He’s 3-0 against the six-time Pro Bowl cornerback.

In a total of four games played against the Chiefs quarterback, Von Miller has the best stats versus Mahomes with 3.5 sacks. In Week 9 of the NFL, Mahomes will still go versus Ramsey’s Miami Dolphins in Germany despite Donald’s current retirement. Additionally, in Week 14, he will compete against Von Miller’s Buffalo Bills.
