Chiefs’ Harrison Butker At Georgia Tech Graduation Delivers Speech: ‘Get married and start a family’

On Saturday, Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker visited his old school as a victorious hero.

Butker gave the commencement address at Georgia Tech, where he played from 2013 to 2016, although he focused more on his achievements away from the field than on his work with the Chiefs.

The 27-year-old delivered a stirring speech and some smart advice to the class of 2023.

Chiefs’ Harrison Butker At Georgia Tech Graduation Delivers Speech: ‘Get married and start a family’

Butker, a married father of two who is a devoted Catholic, talked at the event about his faith and the value of family, which is controversial in today’s society.

“I am someone not much older than all of you, yet I’ve been asked to speak, not because I am a great orator or because I have a number of impressive accolades. Well, I guess I do have two Super Bowl rings,” he said. “I just happen to be blessed by God to be really good at kicking a funny-shaped ball between two yellow posts.”

“I’m not sure the root of this, but at least I can offer one controversial antidote that I believe will have a lasting impact for generations to come — get married and start a family,” Butker said.

“None of these accomplishments means anything compared to the happiness I have found in my marriage and in starting a family,” he continued. “My confidence as a husband and father, and yes, even as a football player is rooted in my marriage with my wife.”

There was some applause after that, and Butker said his wedding band was more significant than any awards he had won with the Chiefs.

Butker pointed out that this year’s Super Bowl was the most viewed football game in history and that he earlier this year made two crucial postseason kicks.

Butker again exhorted the grads to take chances despite of criticism.
